PRE-NAD+™ is nicotinamide riboside (NR).  This newly available B-vitamin alters cellular metabolism toward a more energetic, youthful and disease resistant physiologic state.  This is a profound and sweeping statement but is not made lightly.  It is a summary of the results of the scientific publications listed below.  The key to NR's benefits is that it increases NAD+ levels in the cell nucleus.

NAD+ is a natural compound in all of our cells that is integral to the cell's ability to produce energy.  NAD+ is a key component in the manufacture of fuel from food.  As cellular NAD+ levels rise, a chain reaction of gene expressions and protein activations occur that begins with the activation of SIRT 1, an information regulator in the cell that alters gene expression, mimicking the metabolic effects of caloric restriction.1  Caloric restriction is the only intervention ever shown to extend lifespan in multiple organisms from single-cell yeast up to non-human primates.2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11   Human studies are underway, but because of the longer human life span, these will take several more decades.

In addition to the extension of maximum life span, dozens of studies on caloric restriction have demonstrated reduced disease risk and reduced disease occurrence.11  The benefits listed below have been demonstrated in animal studies.  Human studies on NR are currently underway and we will update this information as it becomes available.  The reason we know NR is safe is because NR is a B-vitamin already present in all of our cells.  Supplementing PRE-NAD+™ (NR) simply increases the cellular level which is responsible for this wonderful list of benefits:


1. Increased size, density and activity of the cell's energy factories called mitochondria.  This was shown to occur in muscle, nerve (including brain), liver and fat cells.1

2. Greater energy production leads to greater muscle endurance, reduced oxidative stress, better insulin sensitivity, reduced diabetes risk, healthier and more disease resistant brain cells1, and slower progression of a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.12

3. Nerve cells that were pretreated with NR lived more than three times longer after being severed compared to those pretreated with placebo.1

4. Mice on a high-fat diet treated with NR gained 60% less fat than those treated with placebo.1

5. Mice on NR had greater physical endurance than those on placebo.1

6. Mice on NR demonstrated equal blood sugar management with a lower insulin requirement due to better insulin sensitivity.1  This has potentially great implications in treating and preventing diabetes.

7. Higher levels of NAD+ have been shown to make brain cells more resistant to attack from environmental factors and block the accumulation of beta amyloid protein (the protein that underlies Alzheimer's disease).12

8. The greater vitality of brain cells along with reduced oxidative stress has implications in the prevention of Parkinson's disease (a degenerative brain disease resulting in movement disorder).13,14

9. Mice treated with NR demonstrated greater thermogenesis (cold tolerance) than those on placebo.1,10  While NR has not been tested for increasing maximum potential life span, it does initiate the same chain of chemistry induced by calorie restriction,1 which has been shown to increase life span in yeast, nematodes (worms), flies, mice, rats and monkeys.  Mice, rats and humans are all mammals.  Monkeys and humans are both primates.
